Your members know best what features you should have. As it’s their demand, so chances are more members have the same demand. Reasonably changes though. 😉 can’t say I ever regretted something suggested by members.
When Christianity Haven was young, some of the members didn't appreciate it that other people had different beliefs and were arguing about theology. They wanted a no-debate zone. So I gave it to them. I even helped it along by posting in there to make it active. It went nowhere, and those members really didn't post. What members think they want, isn't really what's best.
I've regretted this decision only once. I made the mistake of promoting this one member on a video game forum I had about a decade ago. She had some good ideas and wanted to install some new themes on the forum. She insisted that I make her a admin so she can add the themes she talked about. That was a mistake, she deleted the only theme that I had installed that was a gaming theme and installed seasonal themes. I ended up banning her and now I know better not to just randomly promote people. Other than that, all the feedback I've got from my members has been positive feedback that has helped my community.
I can't say I have ever regretted listening to a member on my site regarding my site if I am honest but I have regretted listening to members about other forums and the staff on other forums or even members on other forums that have been vile accusations due to an issue they have had with them.
I enjoy forums and I love running forums as well and I am not about the drama, it's a shame that some people will make things up because they have an issue with someone themselves.
Personally have never regretted listening to a forum member before, but I have countered suggestions to give both sides of the spectrum something to discuss. It’s always good to hear both the positives and negatives to any sort of suggestion/discussion.
Typically no - I bought the domain and software and I pay for the VPS hosting but I think an online community requires members to make the decisions. So, I'm always open to what members want and I think that's important
