The newsletter system that I had going never did even work, just fails to be sent until I changed my ISP some time ago last year and then it did work like a dream and yet on my subscription I'm only allowed to send so many emails a day. I mean that covers all, not just emails but also reset passwords emails and whatnot. Keep the fee-free I'm allowed 100 a day.
All-in-all my gaming-related forum doesn't really need it. I mean most people do not subscribe to the newsletter and the last time I did send was far less than the full amount of the member's list then again people's emails ended up closed or they do not use it. After a while, I do not bother 🙂 also, do you think it improves traffic and activity..? I have never seen that helped one bit
I dont send them out,but depending on the site and its content I like newsletters from like game developers and what not because sometimes it acts as a roadmap as well.
I don't send out a newsletter and my members have even complained in the past about receiving emails for some things concerning the site that was info they needed to know. They simply don't want to be contacted by email is what I've learned.
As far as being on the other side of things...the only newsletters I read are for the company my daughter works for (she writes them!) and a local garden that's doing some updates and I want to keep abreast of the situation so I can visit it when it's all completed. I don't read any other newsletter and will unsubscribe asap.
Sending mails Is quite an effective way to pick up the interest of members on your forum to continue posting. And ensure you send mails across that on a really relevant topic that would make them interested in wanting to know more about it.
Very rarely in the past and I stopped completely after an epic fail.
I run a service forum on behalf of a longstanding commercial client. At the request of multiple members I installed Tapatalk which after an upgrade decided to send out unsolicited spam to every member in the database.
To say my client was not best pleased would be a gross understatement but worse than that, the email was received by ex-customers and multiple deceased members incurring the wraith of their next of kin.
In short, I wouldn't even consider it unless your members have implicitly opted in.
No, I don't know many people that really bother reading them and I think it's more likely people would just get annoyed by them.
Sending one every 6 months or so if the account has been inactive isn't the worst thing in the world (some people do just forget to check back in), but getting them every couple of days can be an absolute headmelt.
