Before I started getting into SEO, I started submitting my sites to Google and Bing and thinking that was it, obviously it's not however it does help a lot. Does anyone else submit their sites to search engines to help boost SEO?

I submit my sites to get them in the system faster. It's good, but SEO is a long-term game. Submitting sites is really just a quick way to get on a search engine's radar, which happens in a few weeks on its own anyways. If someone doesn't submit their sites, they'll see their sites listed it will just take a little bit longer.

I still recommend it though because you never know - You could pop up for a random keyword or phrase, so having your content in search engines ASAP is a good thing.

I did it only once, at the very beginning. It just makes things faster.

It's not that important any more, but I still do it as a force of habit.

Once I use "Webmasters tool" by Google my sites got indexed without any special submission. Perhaps search engines got aware of domain from that source.

I always submit my websites to search engines. I haven't seen an actual effect of it yet, but I like to believe that it works.

After I set up my forum I submitted it to Bing and Google. I could of submitted it to more but those are the bigger ones.

Nope. I do use Google's webmaster tools and submit a sitemap.

I agree with this. It's all just one part of a bunch of things I do when starting a website now.

Absolutely!
And of course I have indexed my website in the parallel Bing Toolbox too

and I used some of that "multiple website-add services" where you type your URL, title, etc.. and the service adds your website in many directories (Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc..) for free
