On my forums, I wouldn't, but we did one time. It was asking should we hire "X"?

So tell me, do you talk about your members behind their backs at staff forums?

That is a normal thing. Consulting the staff before hiring a member is 100% recommended. You should know everyone's opinion about that.

I'm curently an admin on a romanian site, and yes, we do talk there about members. Whether we should hire the ones that deserve it or warn/ban the ones that are causing only trouble 🙂

As I said, it's perfectly normal to consult your staff about these things.

Only if they are doing bad things, or when hiring staff.

We only talk about members behind their backs if we feel they are suspicious in some shape or form, like if they're making suspicious posts or whatever. The only other reason is if we're in need of staff and we see someone who is active and contributing very well to the community. But that's it mainly.

I totally agree with those comments and they apply to my Forum 100%.

Those are all valid reasons.

However, what I'm usually referring to are posts like "Oh, did you see that guy's post?" "What an idiot!" "Hahahaha."

Basically, stuff that might be rather unethical.

IF we're discussing what to do - yes. By all means. You can't make an informed decision based on more than one opinion if you don't talk about it.

It's rather childish really. I fyou do that, then the staff at the forum probably isn't the best...

How is it childish?

We're not whinging about people, or insulting people, it's merely a case of items such as;

'Soandso is creating quite a bit of spam in the General forum, should we do A, or B to deal with him?'
'Personally, I'd do C about him, see if he changes within 1 week, if not, do B, then escalate to A'
'Or maybe D'
'I like the sound of D!'
etc

It's not discussing someones personality, it's discussing someones status/future status on the board.

No, we never do stuff like that.

I didn't realize you were talking about impolite things, like making fun of any posts they make or whatever.

Yes I do this in a special team leaders forum, not in the general staff base, I do it when it comes to big things like spam, staff applicants and what not.

I only do it in the staff forum on my forum and it would only be for serious stuff not for fun stuff. But when I am on a RP forum I am sometimes drawn into conversations that is about making fun a member of that forum.

We have staff discussions from time to time, but we respect all of our members and never insult them or harm them.

On my forum we discussion if we should hire 'X' and wether or not 'X' should have action taken against them if they break a rule etc. However we never simply talk about someone in an unkind way, it's against the rules and isn't tolerated.

I never talk behind a members back on my forum. If I have something to say to them, I'd say it in a friendly manner through a PM or MSN chat.

I don't see anything unethical about making fun of members who are trolling. If someone makes an utter fool of themselves in real life, are you going to remain silent about it when they aren't around? No. If someone acts like an idiot they deserve the mockery they get.

I forum for fun. I've put far too much money into them to act ''politically correct'' all the time. I do behave professionally in front of the members, but seriously, if you expect me not to joke around when someone acts like a total jackass in the staff boards, go to hell.
