Do you think forums will eventually die?

I'd rather spend time on my forum than on social media.
The key point here is you. You probably come from this "older" generation of forum users and you have nostalgia for it. Kids nowadays (I teach kids of 12) never heard of forums. Imagine that.

A lot of forums have died already, but the same goes with some social media projects. You can't tell me that all social media platforms that ever existed ended up being a success.

The reality is that forums will keep existing with most loyalists like me being active in some of them.

Yes, I do, but I’m also stubborn and refuse to let my site fade away. I stay in tune with trends and make adjustments accordingly.

I honestly don't think forums have much of an audience anymore and what little they have left is continuing to shrink year after year. The younger crowd that should have came in to replace the old guard never came and what we have now is a deteriorating member base of forum users trying to cling onto something I don't think really has any real future.

You have generations of people who grew up with cell phones, mobile apps and places to congregate where short form communication is the norm and the sort of long form communication that forums offer is foreign to them.

If forums were dying, there would be something you could figure out to do to stop it but that's not what is happening. What is happening is forums are continuing to slow fade away further and further into irrelevance.

I have to return to this thread because this morning while browsing r/oldinternet I replied to two different comments on a thread about missing the old internet. One person specifically said they missed when forums were around and were powered by phpbb2, the other person said they missed when forums were made for a specific niche. I replied to both of them and mentioned Forum Promotion, both said they were interested in checking the forum out. I even mentioned that the specific niche forums are still around and they're not dead, you just need to look for them. There is still a need for forums even to this day. They aren't going to die as long as we keep spreading the word.

I also think the younger crowd don't even know how to join forums. That's why I am going to revive my Youtube channel The Forum Academy and I plan on making tutorials that aren't for us, but rather for those new to the forum world. I don't think it'll gain traction, but hey if there's a video online showing anyone that joining a forum is easy then maybe it will make people start using them for the first time who knows? Most forums do have PWA out of the box and we should have this feature ready for those who only browse the internet via mobile devices.

I've heard the term forum, being used in reference to places like Reddit. This is something that we old timers would have to reprogram the youngins lol.
