Do you think Games should be counted towards post counts?

Why or why not? No right or wrong answer again 🙂
There are some forums that don't let the Games count as it's an easy way to bump up the post count total. On mine, for now anyways, I do have it count. But there's no real incentive, no prize at the end. Now, if I were going to award a prize, then Games, as well as Weather, Time would be excluded.

I don't count games towards postcount on my own forums, but that stems from the old school thought process of posts being earned for substantive content and it really doesn't matter at the end of the day if they do or not. It used to be considered a real no-no to let forum games count as actual posts, because everyone was obsessed with posts as the metric of measuring success. Now it doesn't matter as much. Visits, views, clickthroughs, time spent browsing, thsoe metrics can all mean something, but postcounts are a meaningless metric on an individual basis. So even though I still have them not counting on my own forums, it honestly doesn't matter if they do or don't in the grand scheme of things.

Christianity Haven doesn't count posts listed in our Fun & Games forum because there are people who go to count and that's not really a contribution to the community. When we offered CH$, why should they earn it from posting a number a thousand times?

All gaming boards that I'm are does not count, I agree and always have it to not count as a post counter. It's easy for people to spam and earn. Plus if sites offer a points system then, just think about what that's going to turn into. Many many years ago FP used to have the fun boards content set as a post counter and it stopped and changed afterwards.

The same goes with the Ask Me Boards, posting with questions and answering unless with posts count going up high.

Do those posts count on your overall post count for the forum itself?

Way back when I used to say no, they shouldn't count towards post count but I don't really see why they shouldn't as they're counted in the overall stats and if you have anything special tied to post count then that's just open to abuse anyway.

I'd understand restricting a forum currency from a games forum, but simple post count...? Plenty of people make low effort posts in main areas of the site anyway so I don't see what it achieves personally.

On my mental health site, we do count the posts in the game section towards the users total. There are no posting incentives so post counts really don’t mean much.

Good question...I assume not but it's been so long I don't even remember. That was set up almost 6 years ago 😀

I’m just curious because if they count for your overall stats, they certainly add value to some extent. I agree with no forum currency from them but stating they add no value is a stretch if used in the manner I’ve described. Not just on your forum, but rather all.

I think that they should increase post count. A post is a post. Obviously, forum games should not award anything substantive like forum currency or the like, but as @Matthew pointed out, they increase the forum's stats. For that reason, I think they should increase the user's post count as well.

On forums where there are rules to the games so they aren’t spammy, I don’t see an issue with them counting towards a user’s post count. As long as they aren’t just posting a number or a single word or two is what I’m getting at. Like, I normally make it to where they have to use a word in a sentence or post a number and something about themselves or similar.

Well, any user can spam in any forum/board just like the hello and goodbye threads and have there post count being counted

If post counts fo not count then it should not be counted as forum stats

I always found it curious when people disabled forum games from increasing post count as these very people will swear up and down that your personal post count doesn't account for anything or say anything about you but will go out of their way to say otherwise by doing something like removing the ability to increase your post count while posting in a specific section. I personally let post count increase for members everywhere because I truly didn't use the number to prove something or have it say anything about anyone in particular.

If you want to know the people who go to your community, I would suggest looking at what people are saying rather then how many times someone clicks post submit or where they do it. A person's post count really shouldn't be something you use to determine anything character wise about anyone on any board.

We have post count disabled in the Game section. Those posts do not count towards our overall forum stats.

I can understand that some sites may not do it because of their particular niche and that's fine as long as you are aware of this on the signup.

My forum is general chat so I do allow the game posts to be counted. I would have it any other way.
