Do you think longer articles get more search engine traffic?

I think it is possible to get more traffic by writing longer relevant articles which are targeted to your audience like "Home computer repair users" and have keywords which people regularly search online for in Google, and other search engines.

But, I tend to limit my articles to under 1000 words since I don't want to babble on and be repetitive since it will just bore my readers.

There is an old saying; "quality over quantity". You must write fluently and keep on topic, as a reader I would rather feast my eyes on a 250 word post about "How Richard Edmonds is good looking" over a 1,000 word post about it and a few off-topic things.

I think it can also be a better idea to just seperate your offtopic sections on your post, and put them in a new post about your new topic, so it won't be offtopic.

That is something I agree with my friend.

No, i don't think so. I prefer quality than quantity.
