Do you think paid forum software is always better?

It really depends on what the user wants out of it. I'd also like to point out that even open source software has developers who are willing to do paid work to give you features you want.

So, again...I don't think one is better than another. I just think it depends on what the user wants out of it.

Well said my friend. I think it really just depends on the needs of each individual for their forum.

I think some free softwares are better for some people due to the no need to host, also usually better looking themes surprisingly lol. Free has it's pros and cons. But there are less cons for me personally.

Free software is a great way to get started, but as in everything in life you get what you pay for. Personally I prefer paid forum software because there will be actual customer support and you won't have to wing it.

Free is good imo, but if you wanna do something big with the forum paid is probably the way to go overall because there's more options and like Akkadian said, support.

There is some excellent free software out there. However, paid software usually has the benefit of giving much more.

For example: The profits towards Invision Power Services 4.0 can bring in sweet goodies and extra packages that free software wouldn't have the funds to develop.

usually better looking themes surprisingly lol.

A "better looking theme" means nothing if the forum is lacking in some key functionality & features...

Anyway, I can use either but now I seem to be spoiled with my XenForo notification system (and all it's other bells & whistle's). 😛
