As per the title, what are your thoughts on "search engine friendly" URLs? In case you're unaware, a search engine friendly URL would like http://www.example.com/here-is-your-content.html, or something like that.

I tend to think that there might have been a time when search engines valued keywords in your URL, but, I can't imagine it's a huge factor anymore when the shift has supposedly moved towards content and ease of use.

I'm not an SEO expert at all, but even if they don't help with optimization, they sure help me, mentally.

For example, if I'm using Wordpress for a personal blog, I don't have to remember that my favorite post is number 38271. I just have to remember it's the post titled "My Favorite Post" and it's much easier to just key in the navbar.

Of course, no one does that anymore, but you get the point. 😛

URL plays a major role as per my opinion. I would prefer searching for a content and click on the URL that describes the most relevant one. This will help save my time and reach directly to what I was looking for.

I also agree with you...

Don't know about Search engine friendliness but I personally trust those meaningful url's more.

I think it's more important as far as physical people accessing your website it always better to have an easy URL. Hyphens and not too common words may not hurt SEO but it may not help either. You've got a really good point though I think there is greater emphasis on ease of use and content.

They help your visitors believe more in your link. And sometimes it helps your link to be shorten and can fit in some situations.

"Search engine beautiful urls" affect your ranking (site.com/thread-1/thread-title) but search engine friendly urls (site.com/thread-1) affect dofollow links because of backlink generating tools. For nofollow sites like ForumPromotion, nothing changes but if ForumPromotion would be dofollow and had friendly urls, our sites rank higher but ForumPromotion stays the same with or without friendly URLs. However it is not very effective, a small thing changes.

As the title says, you become a friend of a search engine because you help them find out who is cheating :great:

I think it's helpful because the keywords get ranked and easier for people too.
