Do you think there should be a TLD for forums?

There already is a domain for forums.
.com stands for community right?

I always believed it stood for company but I could be wrong.

Stands for Commercial.

* edit *

There should be a .dan extension, I'd use that for sure.
.dan? What does that stand for? Or is your name Dan? 😛

.fr (Forum)
I never knew that!

When one of us is swimming in cash, go buy us a TLD extension 😀

com for commercial? I thought it was company. it fits with that too. .net for network? then FB should be facebook.net right? weird but everyone just prefers .com over .net.

According to Wikipedia (don't hate on Wiki)

The domain name com is a generic top-level domain (gTLD) in the Domain Name System of the Internet. Its name is derived from commercial,[1] indicating its original intended purpose for domains registered by commercial organizations.

If they did come out with a .forum TLD, I'd probably own one or two 😀 hehe.

If they did, I'd snap up a LOT of names very quickly, depending on the price, if they cost the same price as the .xxx domains did I'd probably only buy one, but if they were like .com price I would probably buy as many as I could, and re-sell some.

I think a time will come when every business or niche will have a TLD of it's own. I once thought of applying for the TLD .blog but then I decided not to as the process was very long and expensive and it could get rejected too.

How would you go about applying for this?

Well it was couple of years ago and back then I searched about it a lot and it was quite a long process, try googling. I really have no idea about it now, but I do remember that one/company has to apply for it and then the process of months starts.

I don't believe this will happen anytime soon. Why have a .forum extension? A large proportion of brand communities are under the main domain.
