Having a site that is mainly a blog, but also having a section for a forum, would be helpful or harmful to a blog/website?

I think it would be a good support to the website to have a forum area where visitors or members can discuss further about information offered by the website. In writing comments you can't really write a long, in-depth post because you are limited, but forums provide this space for them.

I don't think it would harm the site at all... As aethereal mentioned, a blog isn't really a place to have in depth discussions with other users as much as it is a place to make quick comments on an article. A forum would give users an area for them to discuss further on the topics you blog about.

I really dont think it makes much difference the important thing is content and what type of people are visiting verses traffic.
