I don't use either or any similar products. I don't know enough about them and I'm wary of anything that has the potential to dial home.
Not that many years ago I had a good grasp of how connected tech worked but more recently I've become concerned about how my data has been used in such a way to allow individuals and companies to send me targeted, unsolicited messages and I can't work out how they did it.
I have an Echo Dot that I use on a daily basis, I have my smart lightbulbs added so I can tell Alexa to turn on/off the lights, or control them through the app. I also ask Alexa for weather updates before leaving the house
I think it definitely makes life just a little easier with setting up timers, reminders, etc.
We do have Alexa in the house, yes but they are used mainly for music and my kids like to use them to ask Alexa questions that they want to know the answers to. I know my Mum has a few in her house as well that she uses to turn things on and off and also uses for my Dad to be able to make contact with her in the house if she is say upstairs as he is disabled and can no longer walk and she cares for him.
