Do you have Facebook Connect (or Login with Facebook) on your forums? It's a feature that allows users to literally login (and register) using Facebook, and basically saying "Goodbye" to the traditional registration form and all that junk (not to mention login takes just one click).

Or have you even heard about it?

Anyways, I recently got it on my MyBB forum after Lennart (http://www.mybbaddons.com) released his plugin (requires $12 ish subscription). It's default with IPB 3 and vBulletin 4 as well. Over the last week, around 60% of my new members have all been Facebook logins.

My forum uses vBulletin3, and no I do not use the Facebook Connect feature. When it comes to login options, the closest I have to an alternative login method is the ability to use the email address instead of a user name. I also do not have the Facebook "Like" feature, but I have a "tweet" button aligned just left of the page navigation of any topic.

I have been thinking about adding those one-click login options available for vB3, but I have not gotten around to it.

I have FaceBook Connect on my VB forum, but only a small amount of new members join using it, probably something like 5% use it to join.

Maybe I'm more of a "Why not?" guy, but who knows? I would add OpenID and Twitter's equivalent as well but MyBB doesn't have OpenID yet (nor did I ever get it working on my IPB forums) and the Twitter Connect tutorial doesn't seem to work well.

I am quite interested in seeing an OpenID login option for vBulletin, but I am only aware of one relevant and very incomplete add-on (that has been abandoned) available for it at vBulletin.org.

I've been interested in an OpenID login as well. Didn't know they had one for vBulletin.

The very incomplete (and abandoned) OpenID add-on I had in mind was this one.

I have OpenID, Facebook Connect and Twitter available for users and new registrations. You can even link your standard forum account to your Twitter and Facebook accounts so that any status messages you post on those sites are posted on the forum. It's pretty cool!

I've heard of this, but never really looked into it. Kinda surprised to hear you got a lot of members this way though - Gonna have to see if I can find one for vB3

Thanks! Looks like it has a few problems though, but I'll test it out and see if it still works.

Do you find a lot of people use those methods?

I saw it around in the VB.org mod area, but it seem like people are having problems cause Facebook changed some codes.

I'm not a fan of open IDs or any stuff like that. I feel that if you want full access to a forum, and you plan on sticking aorund and being active, then you should just register an account in my opinion. I can, however, see this feature being handy for a review team. If you request a review, and the person doesn't want to register, they can simply log in using Facebook so they can have a decent look around without registering. Like everything else, this would have it's pros and cons.

I am coding my own Facebook Connect login for phpBB3 but it is takin me a bit since I am doing it from scratch. This is because the current mod that they do 'have' is not fully supported and working - but I am a good enough programmer to get it done. So hopefully, it will be done in the next week or so!

It is a complete registration, though. It's just purely convenience for the user for registration and login for the regular users.

I have the forumotion option for it, but as far as I am concerned they do need here to include their data and create their own account normally.

i like the option to invite your friends and stuff. It is very useful.
