Do you use Moderator Queue?

On one forum, a member signed up last year and I don't know if it was an accidental spam clean or if the IP or email came back as suspicious, but she was banned. A year later she wants her account unbanned. Then she asked to be an Admin saying she has experience. Now she's mad because she was put on Mod Queue after the unbanning and is leaving because she feels unwelcomed. What would you have done?

I guess it depends - in that circumstance I guess I might have given the benefit of the doubt as they didn’t even have a chance to post to be put on mod queue? Granted they could be a spammer or suspicious but you’d be able to tell fairly quickly if that was the case and then ban them?

If I’d signed up somewhere and done nothing and was accidentally banned, then unbanned but placed on mod queue, I guess I wouldn’t exactly feel welcome either?

I don't know if it was an accidental ban. It could have been a spam clean.

My one moderator has submitted some posts for me to review before. He usually contacts me before removing anything. My moderators can only remove posts from public view.

That's where I think the conflict is at.

Forums shouldn't make it easy for members to become staff. Instead, make it clear that requesting to be staff will result in being rejected. Explain that new staff members will be selected based on their activity on the forum and through their history.

I've used this strategy enough where it really works out and typically, you'll find better and more dedicated staff members that way.

I forgot about that member...I guess she was only interested in the position and not really helping the forum because she hasn't been around for a while.

Good idea to make it a site protocol concerning staffing.
