Whether on your own site or someone else's site, do you use personally identifying information, for instance, your name, location, real photo, etc.? In the past, I used to do that but I am no longer using my personally identifying information. However, sometimes I share my location, though.

I've posted a few pictures of myself and my location on forums before, I tend to avoid things like personal-life, workplace and full name though

I have posted a picture of myself here, in that very thread that Noble listed. I've mentioned the state I live in on other forums and do have my city listed as my location on a Sonic forum I've been a member on for almost 15 years now. There were a few other members who didn't live far from me, so I decided to show that I lived near by in case we ever wanted to meet in real life someday.

I'm not against it and really do not mind if people have my basic personal information, it is already out there in some form if someone is dedicated to finding it. However, I generally avoid posting it around the world without reason (and honestly, this is mostly to avoid spam).

If someone tries to hunt you down, they will surely find you as long as you have a presence on multiple sites (including social sites). But not sharing your personal information is in the best interest of your privacy. That's what I dop especially on public forums. However, on social media, I am the real me.

I typically include real information. I will usually use my first or first and last name. I upload an avatar of myself. I include my gender date of birth and relationship status if that’s an option.

I include the city in which I get my mail sent to. I live in a very rural area outside of city limits, but I’m still considered a part of the city I live in which is not very big. But chances are you’re not gonna find out where I live. So I’m not too concerned.

Nope, I never really share any information about myself. Yes I have posted images of my face and images online based on what I have done or doing, I see people and people see me 🙂 End of the day they do not know my absolute reality. I keep my offline self entirely away from online and my online persona is different 😛

Why would I send info and get swatted by the police 😛

No, it is not recommended to use personal identifiable information on a forum. Such information that falls under the identifiable information category includes anything that could potentially be used to identify you. Sharing such information on a public community can put your privacy and data at risk.

Basic rule of thumb: anything more than you’re first name is a privacy risk and should be avoided at all costs as scammers can use it to build a profile about you
