Do you watch anime?

Anyone here watch anime?

I really like to watch anime, sadly there not really on TV but I buy some Blurays and watch them on Netflix. Was curious if any of you watch anime or maybe have a favorite series. I personally don't care for sub series. I rather watch it dubbed but I have seen a few sub series.

Favorite Animes:
1 - Strike Witches
2 - K-ON!
3 - Girls und Panzer
4 - Highschool of the Dead (If you like zombies that a must watch)
5 - Freezing

Re: Anyone here watch anime?

I see your watching Kill La Kill I'm hoping that series will be dubbed for me to watch.

Most likely it will, as when I was at London Comic Con posters for the series were being handed out by a company who airs dubbed anime via a streaming service in the UK. So chances are that means they intend to get the streaming rights for Kill la Kill in the UK, and as they stream dubbed anime, would imply the series will be dubbed.

Then there's also the fact that Gurren Lagann is dubbed, and that series is by the same team working on Kill la Kill.

Re: Anyone here watch anime?

I was watching Sword Art Online on TV and now they're changing to Blue Exorcist which I'm pretty excited to watch.

Re: Anyone here watch anime?

I've seen a few anime... A lot of the major ones (Full Metal Alchemist / FMA:Brotherhood, DragonBall Z, Bleach, Code Geass).

But also some others like:
- Ghost in the Shell
- Chrno Crusade (definitely watch this one if you can.)
- Buso Renkin (this one is just plain stupid fun, the story isn't deep but the fights are good and it's funny.)
- Trigun.

Also, in most cases, I prefer my anime subbed. (Except DragonBallZ... I like it better subbed because that cast just has great voices. Also, Team Four Star's dub works too.)

Re: Anyone here watch anime?

I was watching Ghost in the Shell on TV for a while. I like it, wasn't the best but watchable. But then they changed the time that just didn't agree with me.

I have to say that I did not enjoy both as much as I thought I would. For both series the first half was rocking so awesomely, but it lost the touch in the latter half. Too bad, for such potential series.

Re: Anyone here watch anime?

I agree. On my forum we started talking about it and it seems a lot of people lost interest in the second half. I heard they are making a S2, I wonder how it will turn out.

I heard so too. I don't mind fillers. I hope the plot can be delivered with the same surprise and dynamic speed or else it will be boring once again.

Re: Anyone here watch anime?

It like cartoons made in Japan but they normally have better story lines and most of the ones we get dubbed are aimed at Teens and Adults. There all kinds, you got actions, fanservice, moe, horror, etc. I hope that a good definition of anime.

Haha, I think 'better' is relative and subjective. Unfortunately I don't watch Western comic or animation to compare them, so I won't touch that part.

Adding to darkotakusouls's explanation above, anime is basically Japanese word for their cartoon/animation. Japanese comic (which we call manga), anime, games, and novels are usually divided based on the target audience (young/old boys/girls); each usually has a characteristic touch in terms of artwork and plot to it. They are combined with various genre, from fantasy to slice-of-life (stories which highlights events that can happen in real life).

Re: Anyone here watch anime?

I just ordered some new animes I can't wait to watch. Upotte!!, MM! and Baka and Test.

I had seen Baka and Test on Netflix and really enjoyed it.

In my opinion, anime shows now are better than Western cartoons now, but 8-12 years ago, the Western cartoons were awesome. I also think Western comics are slightly better than Japanese manga.

I've watched animes like Naruto, One Piece, Dragon Ball, and Fullmetal Alchemist, which are all mid-way between anime and cartoons.

Re: Anyone here watch anime?

I havent watched anime in awhile, but the one I liked the most was Dragon Ball Z.

Re: Anyone here watch anime?

I used to watch Digimon, Pokemon, and Yu-Gi-Oh, way back when they were actually good.

The only anime I currently watch is Pokemon, although I don't watch it that frequently.

BECK: The Mongolian Chop Squad is pretty great too if you're into music and bands. A really inspiring anime. 😀
