Do your peers know?

Talk has it that word of mouth promotion is the best way of promotion and its also the most efficient way of doing it. Have you tried this method? Do your peers and family know that you are running an online establishment or an online community? Will you be fine telling them all these?

Everyone I know does, mostly because I've been running the same forum for so long. Word of mouth is also by far the most effective advertising.

Well mostly my peers do not know, as I find it is not really their scene. I tend to have better luck on discussion forums and in the webmaster industry. I guess if you were running a very specific niche forum it would be best to go with the word of mouth approach.

Word of mouth does work yet other times for me it doesn't like I mention it to one person who I'm supported to allot and added something for him and yet not interested

My family isn't from the internet age. Also, the peers are a little more knowledgeable but very cynical.
