Does a dark default style limit potential?

On my upcoming forum I plan on adding both a dark and light style but I am contemplating on which should be the default style, which raises a very good question for all webmasters.

Although more websites are adopting a dark default design, traditionally it is thought that a light default design is more user friendly than the former. First impression is crucial to a site's growth - it ultimately decides how many one-off visitors stick around, so the question I am posing is: are you limiting your site's potential by using a dark default design?

Then have both 🙂 Have the same theme with an option for members to select dark or white 🙂 rather then having to install two themes

Dark is easy on the eyes I say

I'd suggest a light theme - unless your niche is gaming related. Light themes are better, but I would make it known to potential members that a dark option exists.

We have both for members to choose from on my forum. I don't know how to check which is used more though

Well, I can but that's IPB. Unless there is a plugin around or maybe back a simple plugin that will tell you who is using what

I'm using phpbb. I thought there was a thing in the ACP where you can look up how many people are using which theme? Unless they no longer have that feature

I think whether or not a light or dark theme is specific to niches is subjective - in most cases. Well, I wouldn't want a pitch black baby care site - LOL.
