I am looking to buy a domain but both the .com and .net are taken, but if i put in a dash i can get the .net. Do you think a dash would ruin the domain?
The domain is promotion-plus.net

it affects the SEO but apart from that there are no major effects.

I dont like the dash and if I am typing out a forums url from memory, 9 times out of 10, I will type in the "dashless" version first.

well, i could backorder the other one with a min bid of $69 so i might go with the dashed version

..or think of another name.. Use a different extension than .com or .net
But yeah, its not that big of a deal.

You could make a change and make it ppforum.net or promotionplusforum.com
But, I don't really remember dashes, and they don't make the domain look as nice TBH, but it doesn't matter too much i guess.

if i was going to have its say forum i would create a subdomain.

The promotion plus whois says the expiration date is 21 Jun 2010 04:00:00

It does not affect SEO in a negative way. SEO is optimizing the search engines and their results. The domain is a very, very minor part in determining search results.

hmm.. i think i have to wait till 3rd sept to buy the domain :O

i will get the dashed version now

To me, it doesn't matter how a url is written out, as long as it's easy to remember. That's all that matters in my book.

well it affects at the part a bit where keyword in domains come into play.

A.) It's a hyphen, not a dash.
B.) Not really. Considering promotionplus.net is taken, go get it.

A) I was tired 😛
B) Ok, thanks!

In my opinion, a dash doesn't ruin a domain, but highly decreases it's worth.

I would say "highly". It can if it's a new domain, but if it's a recognized and branded domain, then it would be worth more than many others.

Dashes don't bother me, I would still go to the site.
