Does article/e-zine marketing work?

I read on blogs that posting articles on other e-zines, e-mail, websites, blogs, and forums can increase traffic to a website if you put a link which links back to your website, but how effective is it since it can take a day or more to write a quality article.

I also read being a guest blogger or poster in someone eles forum, blog, or website can help drive traffic to your site.

Have any of you guys have success with article marketing?

Article marketing can help your forum by building back links to it. Many people who do this form of marketing don't spend so long writing each article. They may write one in an hour or two and then spend some time submitting it to a number of articles sites. If the article includes a link back to your site, that strategy can get you quite a few back links, without a huge investment in time and it's free to do.

You can also hire people to write articles for you, for only a few dollars each, if you have some budget but not the time to do it yourself.

I submitted an Article to Ezinearticles about "using MSconfig in Windows to speed up a PC" and I got about 5 visits to my website directly from Ezine and 98 article views according to my Ezine articles control panel.

My article got republish on other websites and blogs which "copied and paste" my article with a linkback my website.

I also made a squidoo lense which gets a little traffic each week. I also earned $1.77 US dollars from the lense which has just been up from Dec. 2010.

The lense is mostly full of generic information which I learned from a computer help book. If I make a few hundred quality unique lenses I probably can earn $100 or more a year, and get more dofollow link backs to my websites.

I have better luck with Squidoo since I can add more then 2 links back to my website, and post my RSS feeds for my blogs on my lense. Squidoo is more customizable. I can add pictures, youtube videos, etc.

Although, Squidoo lenses can be very time consuming to make since you have to make it look nice by adding pictures, titles, descriptions to the modules.

My pagerank is now 3, and Alexa rank is now 372,284. Article marketing, Youtube video marketing, and posting regular content might have something to do with the sudden increase.

Before more actively promoting my pages with article and video marketing. My page rank was 0 and alexa rank was in the high millions.
