I'm not talking about here on FP, but I recently changed my username on Christianity Haven and activity has almost come to a halt. Would it really make that much of a difference if I've changed my name after 6 years there?

Weirdly that I only tend to change my username on my own forum here and there and yet elsewhere like FP, I do not change my username unless it's a special season like Christmas or Halloween. But honestly, it doesn't affect it, It can help in a way but there is no big difference I do see.

No idea if it makes any difference as you are the staff or owner of the site or what. Most other sites are just me being a member and nothing more. End of the day I pick what name I want to be and if I want a change then why not do it 🙂

On that note, I'm always been empire 😛

I keep my username as well as my avatar on all forums I'm on. People get used to the name. Maybe they don't know it's "you"? On Proboards, people can change their Display name however if you hover over, you will see the Username they registered with. Other platforms don't seem to have that option. I know when people changed their names, like on here, on top of their avatar, I had to really try to figure out WHO it was!

It can be quite confusing to staff and members alike if there's an unannounced name change. The same applies to a lesser extent when a member changes their avatar. User names and avatars put a recognizable 'face' on a member.

It's difficult to say whether that would directly effect activity levels. I guess it might on a small board if it's a prominent member or member of staff, especially if the change is unannounced. Members might wonder if the board has changed hands perhaps?

I change my avatar every 2 weeks probably, so they're used to it and the name change is similar...it's just in English now instead of German.

I've always kept my username my actual name. But for my big brand, my username is my brand name. Everyone knows me as that. I feel like if I changed the name, it would be dramatic. I mean most know my full name too but they call me by my handle even in person more so than my full name.

As long as people know its you, I wouldn't be too worried but do they know its you?

You changed here as well, right? You were the one with the Llama theme?

Yes, I changed my name here recently and it was German for Little Lamb. The reason I changed it is because someone thought it was okay to use some posts I made on one forum and adding it to another one that was newly created to make it look as if I was participating on the new one. I was told my name would be removed, but last I looked it was still there. So instead of continuing to threaten them it's just easier to change my name and will no longer use that previous name on any forum again.

I rarely change my name and usually it's for events like Halloween, and when I do I make a variant of what my standard username is which probably lets people realize who I am still upon seeing the change.

Changing my username does not affect my forum activity. I change username only for privacy reasons or for uniformity with my usernames on other forums.
