I'm not sure, but I'm starting to believe that Google, Facebook, Twitter, and a few other large website gets most of the worlds web traffic, or at least the western world's web traffic, and the left over visitors go on Google.com to search for niche, and very narrow topic websites like "plumbing parts for toilets" while most of the people on the web goes to Facebook, Google's Social networks (YouTube, Blogger, Google+, orkut, Buzz), Twitter, and other niche social networks like FormSpring, Tumblr, Dailybooth.
But, when Facebook, Google Plus, Wikipedia and other social networks have most of the information on narrow topics like "dirt bikes, skateboarding, soccer, etc" on Groups/fan pages, and it is easy to search for and well organized within social sites, people might be less likely to search on Google.com search engine for niche websites.
For example, I no longer visit celebrities or brands website much, but just subscribe to their YouTube, Facebooks fanpages, and Twitter since it is more convenient.
