Does HTML validation have any effect on SEO of a website?

Even when you validate sites like facebook you get various number errors and warnings but i don't think it really effects the ranking of the site ,but I am not sure .So can anyone clear up my confusion?

not really. maybe about HTML size can affect your website SEO by speed and performance. but about validating i never heard it would affected SEO..

I'm not really sure, I would think it would but now that HTML5 is out, it may have changed.

I am not sure about it because i didn't found and hear any problem about it yet.
