I am thinking of an ecommerce site and the domain has been registered with my host. I thought SSL would be included along with the domain purchase. But itseems i need to buy it separately. It is so and how much does it cost.

Yeah, it doesn't come with your domain in most cases. For an SSL certificate, it really depends on the kind of you want to get. The more expensive ones are ones that cover more or have more liability to them.

Your web host may or may not include SSL with the domain. I recommend contacting them regarding that. If they do not include SSL, you will need to buy an SSL certificate. You can purchase these for $15 at HawkHost.com, which is the best price that I trust and am aware of. There are other vendors, such as AlphaSSL for $50. GoDaddy sells them for I think $90.

Some hosts may offer it for free with your hosting package or some may not. The price also varies and it is best to check your host's website to see full prices.

USHost247 sells them for $15.45/year.

RapidSSL
RapidSSL is an ideal choice for securing new, small and medium-sized businesses and web pages with limited traffic. RapidSSL is an affordable, domain-validated certificate and is usually issued within minutes. It provides strong 128-/256-bit encryption and comes with a free "Secured by RapidSSL” site seal.

Single Domain
$10,000 Warranty
15-Day Refund
No Paperwork

Or you could get them from namecheap for as cheap as $9/year

Keep in mind that a more expensive SSL certificate may not necessarily be better. While it may offer more security, higher bit encryption, and may have a few other things to offer, you also have to keep in mind that 9/10 users are only going to be looking for the green padlock.

And a dedicated ip is must for this? My service provider says i need to buy SSL for 32$ and dedicated for 32$. Which looks little doubtful.

One more thing if i transfer my domain to namecheap will i be able to set SSL from namecheap which i feel it is little cheap.

You can buy an SSL certificate from anywhere, its not like you have to transfer your domain just to get it.

Hostgator actually provides a free dedicated IP and SSL on their top plan, which is I think $14 a month. ^.^

I said to transfer my domain from my service provider because they charge more than others...If i transferred to namecheap setting up SSL and other things will be easy right?

How long do you get the dedicated IP for if you pay $32?

$2 per month or $24 per year is a standard price for a dedicated IP.

To be honest, $2.66 isnt bad a month for a dedicated IP. They are being used up and only a limited amount left. Some hosts charge upwards of $3.50-$4/month for them.

I completely agree here. For only $2.66, that really isn't that bad at all!

Thank you guys for the help and support. If i have any questions i will get back here.

If you want higher quality service/reliability, you will want to buy them. Last year there was an incident where a company (who was a free CA) would not revoke vulnerable certificates and were making users pay to "unscrew" themselves from the heartbleed vulnerability. You can always generate become your own certificate authority, but your best bet is to buy into certificates like VeriSign from other providers.

I believe this would work. Contact someone in the Sales Department through Live Support to confirm. Namecheap sells Comodo PositiveSSL certificates for $9.00/yr. It's a basic certificate but would work to start your e-commerce site.

Thanks for the input friends i will check with service providers and update the status here.

People trust SSL/https sites so I guess my answer to this is yes. Just to get extra visitors onto your site and for extra security as well.
