Well I suppose we are all after that .com extension but with the internet growing as it is these days that perfect extension is not always available. so just how important is it too have a .com domain these days?

Not particularly. Lots of sites nowadays opt for either .io or .co instead. It's so important, it's just about how you market the website that is really.

Well it seems I got lucky and did find the .com name for my new project

Hence why my lateset site is a .life TLD. Anything with the word gaming and having a .com is hard to find. Not to mention almost every typo has been grabbed up too. The bad part I noticed is. I would search for a domain and if it was taken, I would go look at it. 90% of the sites are blank or just a landing page with ads on it. 🙁

A website without a .com is forced to market the extension along with the domain. However, Forum Promotion doesn't do this. It's just known as Forum Promotion. Nonetheless, there could always be confusion among web surfers, or maybe not. Any thoughts?

.com is very important. I have found it is easier to rank a .com in google than any other extension. A .com EMD will always rank higher than the same EMD as .net

I think to many factors are involved now to just rank a site, with it being most weighed on which tld it is. The reason being is, The market is so saturated with blank domains, domains with just ads on them, and now with the internet being as popular as it is. It is hard enough to even make up a name to go with a domain, because even typos and made up words are now already taken on the market.

I think the four main factors are :
  1. Domain Name - Is it keyword friendly... Example Headphone.life
  2. Keywords associated with domain and pages within - Does your headphone site talk about headphones or other tech more
  3. If your website is being shared accross multiple platforms - FB, Twitter, and Youtube....
  4. Unique content of keywords
I think when you have these all four in unison, you can get ranked better than a .com that isn't updating, old outdated content that nobody wants to search for. Your branding has a lot to do with your image. People are all about images these days.

Blank sites/domain parking pages are easy to outrank for sure. But a .com EMD will always rank higher that a .net (or other TLD) EMD if both sites are targeting that specific keyword, with related content etc;

Haven't had an problem since I got two .com 🙂 yet it doesn't matter as it used to me since now you can come up with anything that you want

WRONG. .com is a TLD(top-level-domain) so if your looking to rank #1 in google for your niche/keywords you need a TLD.

I would still go for a .com or .net domain due to popularity and how a people tend to remember them.

I'd rather win a few really engaged users who remain loyal than try to get the attention of thousands of guests who'll likely never come back after the first visit. Quality over quantity.

Do you think people tend to remember .net? It seems like a lot of TV ads in my area use .net.
