Do you like the idea of having a forum masco? This might be a good way to encourage a togetherness attitude on forum by giving forum members an icon to rally around.

It's a gaming forum. It's about other people's works, so a mascot wouldn't really be too useful or relevant.

I have been thinking about this.
Have you found any site with a good use of mascot?

No I have never done such a thing. I think mascots are more for things people feel passionate for or something that exists physically. For example football teams have a mascot and it has more of a use - entertainment for children, support of the team ect. I do not think that the effect would be there in terms of a mascot for a forum.

I'm a member of a forum related to manga and anime, and we have a mascot. 😉

I feel that mascots are much like favicons. They are little things that help to act as image of the forum/website. It may not be necessary to have one, especially if you have no idea when/how to use it, true. It exists as a way to symbolize the community at other places: on your banners, signatures, and so on. It can also be used for events around the forum. Mainly for fun, I guess.

Not at the moment, but it's something I'm working on.

Having a mascot is kind of a cool little thing to have people remember your site. When they think of your site, they think of the cute little mascot you have everywhere.

My Comic characters are the Mascots of the forum i have.

Mascots are a great marketing resource. When a lot of people see a mascot, they are intrigued to see what it is/doing/saying.

A mascot increases your brands awareness, whatever your niche. If you are a gaming forum, a unique mascot in this field would differentiate you from your competitors, the same goes for any other niche.

Also, as a mascot becomes popular, it allows you to add it to t-shirts, cups and anything like that. Look at Mars. They opened an entire M&M store in New York due to the popularity of the M&M mascots.

Don't put a mascot down, there is a lot of advantages of having one.

Yes, we have mascots.

Owly.webp

Owly is our first and most eloquent mascot, since there are plenty of night owls lurking aboard around their midnight...

...But now I've got another too:

CaptainAlbertmuse_zpsbd611af9.webp

His name is Captain Albert (yes, Albert like my stepgrandson, the little pirate in training) and, besides Owly, he is my new mascot. He has his place near my desk lamp, and he is a piggy bank. My husband gave it to me with the instructions: "When lacking inspiration, drop a coin and the inspiration will come!"

I dont believe mascots are essential or even necessary for a forum unless the forum is based around something that already has a mascot like a baseball team, etc.

I don't have a forum right now, but I do like the idea of having a mascot. The College Blog had Colin, so I have done it before. It does help with branding and stuff, and it's just fun to have.

Yea true, but a strong logo could do that.
A mascot is ok if it happens, but it's a bit 'ronald mcdonald'
def. not for every forum. Do you have one?
We have a kind of mascot through our key rings, I guess.
That design does not really carry over into the site though..

I had a talking dog mascot for one of my forums, it was one of those virtual animals that talked when you hit the play button, the mouth moved and everything, it was pretty cool. We called him Animatronix, it was pretty epic and everyone loved him. We used him to announce contests and new staff.

Tsumiki is the mascot of my forum I think xD

I don't know if I necessarily agree with this. I mean a mascot for a forum is kinda weird when I think about. You want members to rally behind your forum, as in post content and be active, not rally behind a mascot.

Never heard of having a mascot on a forum, personally. xD

I don't think a community actually needs one, though. Not sure what purpose it would serve. If it's like a character within a logo or something then I guess that could work. But if that same character appears around everywhere in the forum, it could get annoying. xD

Lol in earlier days there was a forum broom and a mysterious broom cupboard, great fun I must revive it thanks for the thread

No, but I think it would be cool to have one to put in my forums logo and maybe "official" threads. Don't know what I would want the mascot to be/look like though.

Yup... We have an owl. He wears glasses and is reading a book. 😛
