Does your site have an insane aslyum?

So I have both ran, and been on a few forums now and I have noticed how some have a "Insane Aslyum" type place for users to generally just go mad and be weird. The zone is normally post count disabled and doesn't count towards board stats either yet, they are allowed and generally a place for them to talk/go mad.

So what do you think about such a zone, is it a good and valid idea to have one, or is it a bad idea?

I do not have one and I don't plan on having one. To dangerous I might go too wild there and scare off members lol.

I have a rant forum, if that counts? 😛 It's basically a place to rant about stuff. 😛 I'd like to think none of my members are too insane where they need to be committed to an asylum.

I don't think I've ever had a board like this on any of my forums, and I don't think I've ever seen it on a forum I'm active on! Though, I suppose it's not a terrible idea... I can see it getting really out of hand though.

I guess it depends on what age your members are. I find that many times on a serious forum members ages are quite higher and thus members tend to be more mature, compared to sites that cater to like say black hat topics where members ages tend to be teenager and younger and thus you would need such an area so they can troll, something i know most of the younger generations enjoy to do.

Yeah I know. There are no rules in the zone (except a few major ones like no posting of inappropriate content) and users can lock there own topics etc.

Don't have such a section. I think it's much better not to have one as it may put off other members.

An old forum I used to moderate had one, was basically a "venting room" for the disgruntled members to go wild without being attacked by the staff.

I can certainly see how an insane aslyum could help a younger audience as it does let them have a place to cool down and let it go as such, but at the same time it should be hidden from guests as it could put off members of a wider age group.

I have a drama llama forum. It's where I send all the drama threads and garbage. The trolls hang out in there and post about stupid stuff like flame wars. It's private to public view so it won't turn off future members but I may have to lock it down to request access only at some point. It seems to help keep the the rest of the forum peaceful though.
