Have you ever noticed whether or not your computer system lags as it's downloading and installing windows updates? My dad usually calls me each time before the update shows up to tell me his computer is really slow. I tell him that it's probably an update. It seems that each update makes our systems crawl...does that happen to you too?

I've personally not experienced the problem as described. Unless you have a slow Internet speed you shouldn't really get any lag on the download. Having said that if you c: drive is near full to capacity that could well result in lag regards of whether there's a system update being downloaded.

Background tasks like running an anti-virus scan or making an unattended backup could also cause lag.

I would check what is running in the background and get rid of unwanted programs, ensure the device is virus free, make sure there is a lot of free space on the c: drive and run a defrag.

My computer is 9 years old 😀 I'm sure that plays a part in it...and my husband nixed the new laptop until the end of the year for me.

I've only had this issue when I was using Windows 10 and on laptops that had mechanical hard drives rather than SSDs. Age can definitely play a part in it as well.

Most updates that do happen I'm aware of it anyway since I do it myself, I do not have it set up automatically, I manually force it myself. I wouldn't say I like things doing things in the background without me knowing...

ANd no, it's not slow at all... I do not notice, but then with the new system should not have a problem, only if you are on a very old low end PC with old slow hardware that you would see the slowness

If it's slow should consider upgrade

I'm saving up now for another laptop, but it will take time.
