i seen fourm close because of "activly didnt get up" etc. you try harder many people think members come like magic wrong if its dieing ask for links of ad fourms
I would also stress patience. Not too long ago I browsed through the directory of Invisionfree hosted message boards. I was startled at how many have been abandoned, despite what I thought were many that had nice looking skins, layouts and banners. It seems like there are a great many who think message boards will become busy and popular very quickly. Obviously there are those that do but generally these seem to be the exception and not the rule.
My advice to anyone starting up a message board: be patient, be prepared for constructive(and sometimes not constructive) criticism of your board, and be prepared to work at it.
It's hard to get members I've only just set up my forums, most of the time I'm lucky to get 20 members but it dose build up after time so never abandon your forum!
Yes as packmule said, patience is the key to running a successful forum. Do you think this site got as many members as it did in just one day?
The thing is that people come on forums and expect them to be active and everything, but when they leave, they're the ones not making it active anymore. That's why you want to stress to new members that come along to be patient and post a lot.
My board is a little over 24 hrs old, but I think I am fair lucky to already have two other people there, and getting a lot of views if not a lot of members.
I am hoping my board will get popular, I know that the subject of my board is. . . well, unique. There is only one other board that discusses the subject that mine is about, but that board reeks of elitist crap. :/
My forum is two days old and has 9 members, but I am afraid that after the first 25 or so (mostly people I know in person) that it will slow down majorly. I feel like I am completely lost regarding SEO and now I find out that my host sucks (freeforums) so I can't even do proper metatags until I switch...sheesh
It's times like these when I really need to heed the advice in this thread!
