This was a shower thought and just in the back of my mind as an idea for a forum if Discussion Block ends up not working out or whatever.

Would people be interested in this? I'd do original content with my own words such as news, op-ed, etc. I'd have the usual off topic forums like on DB too obviously! This is just an idea I had in my head recently. I'd love to do this in some form someday, but wondering if a blog or forum would be best.

The article management system for XF is expensive, so doing like news and such as a thread would likely be the best route for me unless I somehow saved for it or so. I know this idea would have been popping a bit during height of the pandemic especially if I had someone help with SEO. 😛

I think the idea is neat for sure and one I'll save in the back of my mind.

I have seen a few forums about food that didn't quite make it. If you have a different, unique idea, I would think it'd be more popular than the same ol'.
Keep us updated on what's in the works 🙂

I think it could work if it does something different. I've only seen a few food forums pop up lately, so it's a niche not too many people have done.

This idea would have been good during the height of covid as I mentioned. A blog I did write for during the pandemic totally suggested we write articles like on how to make certain food at home or whatever else.

Yeah, sadly unsure what to do to make it quite different. So many forums just fall flat and fail anymore.

Just DO IT 😛

If it's an idea and you think that you can make it work then in your case it's good just to do it and I've it a try and end of the day it's a fail or error or good.

Sometimes changing the genre of a forum works out. @Shortie recently converted her general discussion forum into a promotion forum and it seems to be doing okay. Still in the early stages so hard to tell how it’ll do in the long run. If you do change the focus of your forum @Kale, I’d say keep all the content and members so those of us who already joined DB will be established on your new version of the forum. It’s easy to keep all those topics you have already, you can just move them all to an Off Topic / General Discussion forum and then create all the different food related sections that a food forum would need.

I seen that and am a member there. I dunno if I'd want to change the genre entirely or not yet. It's kind of been a thought I have had though. I don't feel the genre is the problem with the forum as there's plenty to reply to and stuff. It's just the activity died down randomly.

I sent you a message.
Yes, got it

I think a food forum would be a good idea. You can even create a food vlog and share the video links on your forums. IN this way you will be running a forum as well as food vlog.

I've seen it in a general forum and have a section for food discussions. A food forum itself could work I think!

Recipe Area
- Crock Pot recipes
- Instant Pot recipes
- Air Fryer Recipes
- General Recipes
- Baking Recipes

Dishes from around the world
- Europe
- United States
- Tex-Mex
- Mexico
- Africa
- Asia
- Etc.

General Cooking Discussion
- Kitchen Tools (Crockpots/Instant Pots/Pans/Plates/Utensils...etc)
- TikTok/Youtube cooking videos
- Best Dish Awards (Voting arena)

This would be a general layout that I think would be amazing personally.

I have the food and drink forum on mine already, so could always consider adding some of these ideas to it. 😛

If you were to add it I would add prefixes if you could [Recipes] (Crock Pot) (Instant Pot) (Air Fryer) etc. [Cooking Tools] that way you aren't not making too many extra forums within a forum.

Yes, did that just now actually.

I wish I'd have thought of this in 2020 when the pandemic was fresh. I could easily write up news, op-eds, and even other stuff to share things to cook at home etc.

What’s helping is a lot of people are on the health trend right now. Water tok is a big thing right now lol. And those meals you can buy mostly prepared, or the ingredients and you just pay them. It’s still a popular thing!

It really depends on what you feel you would be happier working on. Whilst a forum would be beneficial, in some cases a blog could be better for you and could attract more traffic as well. It would also be a lot cheaper to build it on something like World Press instead of something like Xenforo as the article system on Xenforo is quite costly.

This maybe done with Discussion Block with AMS or similar coming in the future. I think it is best to focus on DB versus opening a food blog or forum. I also may feature popular or quality content threads related to this subject/topic too.

I was happy that my hosting and XF license were gifted to me, but otherwise for sure like this suggestion!
