You might start of building your forum then eventually buy yourself a domain name for it. Or you may do this first after thinking about what to call your forum.
Let me tell you the domain name is important for SEO it helps greatly in search engine rankings.
An example:
If you made a forum about a specific game lets say 'Modern Warfare 3', then people are gonna search for 'Modern Warfare 3 forum'. If you call your site 'modernwarfare3forum.com' the search engines will already put you high up, then use this phrase in your title, description and throught the forum content.
Now if you choose 'mw3chat.com' it will make a big difference in that search engines won't consider it no where near as much as if you chose 'modernwarfare3forum.com'
