For successful forums its okay to have a donate button; if the money is used to keep the forum running and operated. Most forum admins offer a service in returning like running ads witch makes it a win win situation for both. In my opinion simply displaying a button wouldn't keep me from joining the site, But if i start digging around and see that the forum's Mods & Admins are constantly "encouraging" people to donate then ill have a problem with that
