Mine is a free Proboards so I don't need the added income. If I moved to another platform, I probably still wouldn't as I don't like my personal info out there.
I've never donated to forums for that same reason.
I DO however try to help out in other ways by visiting more & doing some extra posts. 🙂
I have donated to Christianity Haven and it's probably the only one I've donated to. We have gotten some donations from members, but we try not to push that too much because another forum I used to be on was always pushing it and it made them look bad (being a Christian site).
I have asked for donations in the distant past and I was completely blown away by my member's generosity.
The cost of keeping one particular forum running became quite significant, well over $1,000 a year. I made a post and received donations enough to keep the forum running for many years.
Because of that, I have made donations to various forums and similar projects myself. Call it karma I guess 🙂
I used to never donate, but lately I’ve found myself doing it just to get whatever perk they offer, whether it’s a username color, special user group, etc.
I wouldn't say I would never donate to a site, if I had the spare funds and I knew it would help them out then I would go ahead and donate to help them. In terms of accepting donations, we do not specifically ask for them but we do have the option to allow people to donate if they wish to.
If I am unable to donate due to low funds I will help out with activity instead.
