Donations Yes? No?

Ya I have before. I had it set up where people would donate x amount of money and get a premium membership or special crap.

If you are going to do the membership thing I would also promote worthy people also that way it gets things rolling and kinda promotes the group.

When you donate money to a charity you get something back? Right? when you donate to a charity (in real life) you get money deducted from your taxes.

You don't really benefit financially from that. The tax saving normally goes to the charity, but even when it doesn't, you still don't profit from the donation. For example;

Say you pay tax of £40 on every £100 you earn
You donate £100
You would get £40 tax back
The donation still costs you £60 (£100 - £40).

On my forum that I used to own, you could donate and you got a special usergroup. That was really it.

You shouldn't be a personal slave to your members to get them donate, because then you look like a desperate idiot.
