Donations

I'd rather run ads, however with Ad-Block on everyone's browser now-a-days, donations would probably generate more income. 😛

So true, most users will probably have an ad-blocker of some sort, I'll confess to using one as well. However as of lately I have started to make exceptions in the blocker for sites I feel I want to support, such as places like this and other "smaller" communities or personal blogs.

I still block them on many other sites though, especially if the ads tend to be too many and take too much attention from the actual content, some just don't know when enough is enough.

I highly doubt that overall donations would be worth more than ads. Just either host the ads locally (won't work in all occasions obviously) or put a banner under the ads asking for the member to disable their adblocker in order to support the site.

You could also offer ad-free user levels for donations to help the cause.

When i ran one of my forums a couple year's ago, I had ad-sense + donations setup.

The way it worked was we had Guests, Members, Members + & Staff (Unless they where staff vip) all show ad's to, To remove the ad's people could donate around $10 monthly or $20 one time donation.

Folks, there's this paraplegic that really needs your help. She had a 1200 pound shelving unit come down on top of her paralizing her from the waist down. She sued the company but only got $25k and this was 10 years ago. She's in really desperate need of a new wheelchair. SSI onlY rents them for a year before they buy them. And even then she's responsible for 20% in addition she needs to purchase the accssesories for her van, and Medicaid doesn't pay for that! In addition it's almost $400. For the installation of the accessories for the van. She lives on her SSI money on a month, and pays her mortgage, car payment, electric, and phone. She's barely making ends meet. Please find it in your hearts to hep her out. Please share this link with everyone you know so she can meet her goal. https://www.gofundme.com/jbmqzkck Thank you Guys, I know I can count on you. God bless you all. Even $5.00 would help. Please pass this on

i think it's all ok, but i won't do this. I may use ads instead. I don't like people throw me some coins like i'm a beggar. I won't beg for anything. They come in, Google has to pay me. That's my opinion.

I personally refrain from asking for donations, as I do not require them at this point. Hosting is relatively inexpensive for the size of the forum I desire to maintain. Approximately $5 a month, plus a $10 domain fee per year. Looking at about $70 /year to run my community. Definitely not asking for donations 😉
