People trying to bring your forum down by saying stuff well tell us here.

Let me tell you, if 1 more person says that your not dedicated to your forum if you don't invest then I'm going to go extremely mad, i'm sick and tired of it. I spent 1 and a half years extremely dedicated to my forum and how much did I invest? Wait for it... nothing. Just coz you have money doesnt mean anyone else does so next time you try to bring someone down for this reason then think to yourself just because I can invest doesnt mean they can.

I'm sick of people bringing me down, I very nearly left this forum because of it. I've certainly been close to a ban from having a go at the people that do it 😛

Dedication has nothing to do with the money you put into something. It's determined by your passion for what your board is about. Does anyone really think someone really cares about how much money is invested into a forum? If it provides what they are looking for then they will come provided they can find it.

Someone does care, I won't say names but a few people have tried to bring me down for not investing.

A domain should be enough to know you're dedicated. You don't need fancy paid forum software, or a paid theme. You can even stay on Forumotion and you can still be dedicated.

There are many good forums on FM such as Facebook Forum, and tons on ZetaBoards.

Yeah Facebook Forum, I used to work there. Great forum.

I remember when a certain member used to try and put me down, always telling me my forum would fail, threatening to sue me because I used XenForo and going extreme lengths to try and make my forum fail and ruin my reputation. He owned a competing forum to mine and now he failed, he did the worst thing ever and sold his forum off and I am the one who is succeeding.

Keep strong when people like this try to trip you up and I guarantee, You will have the last laugh 🙂

Yep I remember someone when I first made a forum (before I joined you guys) a guy said the forum will never get past 1k posts. It made it to 50k posts but then got hacked. So I still proved him wrong so do not listen to them. community.mybb.com have to be the worst for slagging forums off

I doubt they're saying that you're not dedicated about it, they're probably just saying that it won't be as successful if you're not investing. Correct me if I'm wrong, though.

You can be dedicated without any fancy hosting or big investments. It is about how much time and effort you put in to the site, not only the money. In fact, if you have a lot of money, it is likely that you don't put as much work into your forum as much as other people.

Don't listen to what people people about your dedication. You know how dedicated you are and the best way you can prove your dedication is by doing what you can to make your forum a success. People will over time see the light and see how serious you are about your site.

This is not anything that is unique to here or anything new. People doubted this forum when I started it. Many of the Invisionfree users put this forum down because we weren't on IF like most of the other advertising forums and saying it won't beat any of the IF advertising forums. Funnily enough all the advertising forums on IF (to my knowledge) are closed/abandoned and look where we are today. We started on a free host with no domain aswell. People will be negative and you can't stop that but you need to turn that negativity towards you into motivation to prove them wrong.

I agree with Fowler here 100%

The negative criticism you receive should be converted into fuel to drive to success.

Well said.

People used to question my administrating capabilities and well, in my forum's first couple months, I'm pretty sure around 90% of the people who came across my forum were predicting the forum to die shortly, and they told me the forum would be a complete failure. A few of them owned ProBoards American sports forums that were widely popular. Now, if you look around, all those forums are dead, and Cmt Sports Forum is the one of the few sports forums even on ProBoards anymore. Also, I have not spent any money on my forum, not even a penny.

You go girl.

In all seriousness though; don't listen to anyone who says that you don't put in the effort or money. Websites don't require money to be put into them as such, but to be successful, it's all about dedication.

This reminds me of something EvanP tried to do to me in April.

EvanP (AKA Grumpy) had just bought phpBBCommunities. The first thing he did was claim a copyright infringement on me. He sent me a PM saying he is reporting me to the DMCA because I copied them.

I asked him what was copied. I can't give you an exact quote because I no longer have the PM, but he replied with something along the lines of:

EvanP said:
Nobody used the gallery MOD or the knowledge base MOD before us. The colour scheme of your custom design is the same as ours too.

So he reported me. I never got a notice or anything from DMCA, they must have laughed in his face.

LOL.

Hello StevenF50 I completely agree I hate people who think they're so much better than you because their forum is VB or other costly forums! +1 rep for this thread.

People who try to bring other people down are probably insecure, threatened by competition or jealous... or all three... Or maybe they are just jerks. Lol
In any case, who cares what other people say?

I don't like this thing about forums costing money, either. Although I prefer it now that I'm self-hosted, it isn't necessary for a good community!

I guess is part of the trend of cool. People try to appear more intelligent by repeating and doing what others.

Despise my own insecurities today...
Roczuz started in proboards. Stayed there a year. When we migrated to Forumotion we didn't take the database, we started over. When I advertised people putted down my forum for being in two languages, saying it would not be active and would die in a matter or months. In a board I advertised someone who likes to think his opinion is very important gave me a detailed review of reasons (no money investment, no proper url, being on forumotion, being a new forum) why my forum was a laughing excuse and that he wouldn't give it few weeks before seeing it dead; he did that on a community that at the point was less active than my own forums... Two years has been since that comment and with over 19000 post I feel we really have done something there. Specially for a forum so amateur we have lasted there for a while and got more than some other of the paid forums.

you have to believe in your dream and keep tackling it and only when you feel in you that is time to let go of it that is when you move on, but don't quit a dream before it flourish just because of what other people say.
