Do you ever find yourself endlessly reading and scrolling through a forum community out of boredom or find yourself wondering why you're doing it when you catch yourself?

I usually don't do this with forums but instead social media. It's usually Facebook I'll doom scroll on and sometimes Reddit. When I'm on forums I don't doom scroll but rather look for topics to engage in.

I don’t really do it with forums unless I go into a rabbit hole with something I researched. I do doom scroll on TikTok though. 🤣

This is me with TikTok, it's like a bedtime ritual now. Once I get off the computer and in bed, my phone instantly comes out where I scroll for a while just catching up on some news and whatever the latest TikTok trend is

I constantly catch myself doing this going through Threads. It's crazy scary how easy it is to fall into that doom scroll trap.

I do this on Facebook especially with their reels. 😝

mouse wheel defo gets a warm out on FP 🙂

I do this on average, every other day. I only browse one social media site: Reddit.

Not so much with forums, but definitely with social media. I usually end up on Facebook or Reddit on a regular basis just scrolling through and actually taking the time to read the occasional post. Used to do it a little more with forums years ago, but not so much these days unless I'm really invested in a topic or just looking for something to do since usually doom scrolling on forums somehow results in me posting in threads (within reason, if they're not super dead threads that I'm bringing back to life by posting in them).

No, but I do it all the time on Tiktok and Facebook.

I’ve honestly never had this issue with forums, and it’s one of the big reasons I stick with them over social media. Forum conversations tend to be meaningful, real people having real discussions, and then you move on to something else. There’s an actual sense of engagement rather than just mindless consumption.

Social media, on the other hand, is built to keep you scrolling for hours while achieving nothing. Half the time you’re not even interacting with anyone or learning anything; you’re just being fed an endless stream of content designed to hold your attention. No wonder people call it “brain rot” these days.

Forums don’t trigger that same loop for me. If anything, they encourage you to slow down, think, and participate instead of getting sucked into an algorithm-driven rabbit hole.
