Do you ever get any door-to-door salesmen trying to sell you something?

We had this weirdo come by last year wanting to sell us educational books for kids in elementary school. He was really creepy. I told him I wasn't interested but he kept running his mouth so I shut the door on him. What I didn't know was that the woman next door had called the police on him for harassment.

We also had an educational book salesman. He was an awful salesman and tried to imply some sense of urgency like books wouldn't exist in a few hours. He did not get far lol.

I worked one day for a German vacuum company called Hyla who did door to door. It was commission only. I spent hours with this guy driving for 6 and half hours across the state just to see one person. We went and saw them and lied through his teeth about the vacuum being able to remove wax out of carpet and other things which he later confessed to me that he did lie. I didn't like that it wasn't steady pay and I was told that I wasn't allowed to visit certain neighborhoods because other salesmen had customers in those areas. The next day I attended the meeting and got into the car with my "mentor". The guy who was going to show me the ropes on selling these piece of shit vacuum cleaners. I really didn't want to do this all over again and sit long hours in the car with him. We were going to St. Louis. We went a block over and he said he was going to get a hair cut before we went because he had an appointment. He gave me the option of going in with him or waiting in the car. After he went in, I bailed and waited in a grocery store. He came out, looked around, waited in the for a bit and then drove off. I quickly made my way back to my car and went home. Later that month I got a job working at Wal-Mart as a janitor for the next 2 years before I transferred to produce and quit.

I really dislike commission-only jobs. They focus entirely on making the company money at the employees and customers expense. Commissions should be done as a bonus of sorts and not THE income of the job.

Me too. That's why I quit. I knew I couldn't make a living selling vacuums without an hourly wage to get me by. I tried selling cookie dough for the high school. Just about everyone in most of the neighborhood said no or to go away.

I remember my parents dealing with door to door salesmen frequently when I was a kid, but I don’t think I’ve had one where we live now. Seems to be a dying trade.

Yes we have, but it doesn't seem to be as big of a thing anymore. We usually do not answer the door if we don't know the person.

I wonder how much cell phones and such have hit the door-to-door salesman. It is very hard to push a product or inspire a fake sense of urgency when the buyer can just take 5 seconds and look it up on their phone.

I got sucked into this one idiot salesperson and ended up in so much debt because I was stupid.

I had not had to deal with fake ones yet lol

We don't even have people that stay at home in my country. That method of marketing has died a natural death because of that.
