Drastic Change in PR Ranking

Hmmmm... now that's extremely odd. I just checked and you are correct, it's all 0. Are you using Google's Webmaster tools? If not, i'd start... and maybe even send in a support ticket about your drop to Google. My PageRank hasn't changed either, so i'm not sure why yours did =\

The only things I can think of is a server crash on Google's end, or you being banned from Google. A ban would show you as not index'd though, but it could happen after the next Google Dance... too early to tell now.

Google may have punished you (your forum) for becoming a link farm. I would try to contact them for a reason, but other than that, it may be legitimate.

Edit: I think it may be legit since my PR went up from N/A to 0, so there have been some changes.

I thought PageRank had been removed from Google Webmaster Tools.

It has, webmaster tools will be able to show her what Google says the current SERP ranking should be, and if it's lower than what it was, she can send in a ticket asking why 😉

Firstly, what's a link farm?

As for being banned from Google, uh... I didn't even know that was possible. 😵 I can still log in to Google and such with my email, no problems... or does that have nothing to do with it?

Anyway, I'm going to try out that Google Webmaster Tools and see what happens.

Its basically where you site just links to everywhere. Though it may sound good, its not. Google considers it as spamming. Now, you won't get banned from using the search engine, Google just doesn't index you anymore. I think its because of your affiliates page. Check and see if everyone is linking back, as that is one way to be penalized.

I see.

Does having links in topics add to the 'farm'? Because maybe I could change the affiliates page to a topic... ^o)

But yeah, I'll double-check my affiliates. I'm sure a fair few of them have died since I last checked.

@fantanoice, its really a case of bad luck, tbh. Many sites get caught off guard. But, I would really go and ask via a support ticket etc. Its the only way to know. I may be wrong, but link farms are one way to get banned. Not sure about topics though 🙁

@Nathan, 1. SERPs is damn important.

SERPs is search engine results page. See in Nathan's signature, you have forum promotion, even though that isn't the name of his site. Well, google indexes it as a key term for his site, and while it is a major search term, it gives him a point towards that search term for his site.

Search Engine Results Page, so how and what page you appear in search engines for your keywords or even high searched keywords is a good start :great:

Edited my previous post about SERPs.

Go to Google, look at the query suggestions and then see what you want people to be searching in order to find your forum. You probably want something like general discussion (I think thats what your forum turned out to be). In your signature, change the link so its General Discussion and link that to your forum. Do that and you will get higher up in google.

Fanta ... what I think may have happened, is your site's OLD PR was based around the zetaboards URL. And when you swapped to your custom domain (just weeks ago), it started from scratch. And, now that you don't use the zetaboards, it got wiped clean as well. Same thing happened to me when I added my custom domain to the site.

I guess that's a possibility, considering my rank is 0 and not N/A (which I 'think' is what would happen if I were banned.)
