I have been receiving some items about drinking cold water purportedly is bad for our health. I wonder why this item in the social media is circulating. Do you believe in that? When you drink cold water, the temperature of your body is destabilized so that your blood circulation is affected. It is silly to believe in such things because I had been drinking cold water since I was a little girl (when my father bought our first refrigerator). I am now nearing my senior years and nothing is wrong with me. So what's the fuss about cold water for a drink?

drinking very hot water is also very good as drinking cold. What's this BS?

Drink out of a tap doesn't effect much. We all need to drink water

Eh, I personally only drink water that's room temperature

Cool water is nice.

As far as temperature affecting your health with pure water, that's only going to be an issue if it's so hot that it causes direct tissue damage. If your water source is impure such as from tap, then the hotter you get it (before drinking it, not necessarily as you drink it) the better, as it will kill off the bacteria.

I also heard that cold water is not good for your health. However, I still drink cold water because I like it. I don't think it can be that bad. Smoking is bad for you, yet people still smoke and drinking cold water can't be that bad when you are comparing it to smoking.

where did you get your infor from

Ideally, water enters our body best at room temperature. But to honest, I'm more so of a supporter of drinking water, rather than drinking the right water temperature. As a population (especially in the Western world), we don't drink water like we should.

I seek for colder water on hot summer days, especially when I feel my body overheating. To externally pour cold water on yourself, immediately cools you down physically. Internally, however, our body has to regulate this cold water, before it can be dispersed properly.

In my opinion, if you feel thirsty, just drink water. Hot, cold, it doesn't matter. To put it in perspective, if your car is out of oil, do you honestly think if the oil we put in the engine was cold, it would perform or act any differently? No... The oil gets put in the engine, and the engine regulates it at its own natural temperature. The principle of dehydration with the human body is the same (though some might contest). More importantly, staying hydrated is the key component in all of this. Have a glass of water even if you don't feel dehydrated, but know you haven't had H20 in a moment.

Why? It doesn't matter.

Enzymes, mainly! Enzymes are produced by living organisms (such as humans) which help in the breakdown of items such as food in our body to extract its nutrients (via biochemical reactions). The sole function of an enzyme depends on its temperature. Enzymes (as a shape) become tight when they are too cold, and loose when they are too warm. At the right temperature (ideally room temperature), enzymes function at an easier and more favorable rate. Water works with enzymatic performance as a substrate (Google it). Allowing for periodic enzymatic turnovers throughout the day.

Like I said in my first post, focus on drinking enough water per day, rather than water with the right temperature. Because cold or hot, drinking not enough water can have serious effects on your body, including enzymatic processes.

It thinks it only bad if you take too much of cold water. Some of the articles have seen about drinking cold water after a meal seems reasonable, but difficult to adhere to, because I love cold water.

I've heard that drinking cold water isn't ideal, though it hasn't stopped me from doing so, especially during the summer months when it's needed to cool our systems down a bit.

People get it wrong. As weird as it might sound, you should drink cold water during cold/smooth days and normal-temp water during summer.

Honestly, I don't see anyone drinking water so cold, as it would be harmful anyways. Most "cold" water people drink, won't be at freezing temperatures. For example, when I let my house tap run long enough, as soon as the house temperature water drains from the system, and the pipes themselves cool from the flow of water, the tap water gets around 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Pretty good temperature to drink regardless of the temperature outside. 🙂

People believe in weird things. This is one of them. There is nothing wrong with drinking cold water. I drink it all the time. I'll even drink from the tap and room temperature water also.
