Earthquake drills

What is your take on the earthquake drill? I am posting this thread because I find that the earthquake drill being conducted here by a government agency is getting to be exaggerated. Last Friday, the drill took 1 hour, from 4 pm to 5 pm, where the electricity was cut off and even internet providers joined the fun with the blackout of signals for 1 hour. People in all buildings went out to the streets and stayed there for 1 hour to simulate what they should do when the real thing occurs. I smell something fishy in those drill which is the 3rd for this year. The drill comes with a big budget for the simulation since they have props like actors to play the role of injured people, rescuers and all the trimmings of a disaster. It is like seeing a set of a movie. Hmm, maybe is it just because of the budget?

You wont realize the importance of these drills untill you have experienced what it means to be a victim. As a doctor, causalities due to some form of natural disasters are something I see everyday.

You must not live in America, as what you describe would be highly illegal here. I have never practiced an earthquake drill.

Never done one. We never get them here in the UK.
