Do you feel it's effeminate or dumb? Anyway, where I live it seems to be frowned upon - as people pride themselves on being self-reliant. Nonetheless, I don't really have time to cook food - and so I might eat out too much.

Anyway, some family members are highly critical of those who eat out all the time - cause they think it wastes money and is weird. They're giving me a rough time - and expected me to cook for my elderly mom.

Going out eating can cost more then eating in but it's not wasters at all. alllot of people can't get home in time for them to eat in since there work hours are crazy

In a lot of areas, going out is expensive as Empire said but it's also not as healthy as cooking can be. Restaurants tend to use a lot of salt and that can be bad for the elderly.

If you really need to eat out a lot, make sure you are checking the calories of the meals (more and more places have their nutritional values of the menus online) and choose wisely. Even some salads can be high in calories because of everything they add into it.

Portion size is another thing to watch out for. Restaurants are known for huge portion sizes! Maybe eat half and save the rest for another meal later?

My job involves nothing but traveling and living out of hotels, so I eat out like 90% of the time. It's not healthy, but microwave meals and cold food get old real quick. I'm actually eating Olive Garden right now. I had CiCi's Pizza yesterday. I had Waffle House the day before that. 😛

You got that chub forming bro?

Eating out can cost more than cooking at home, true. It depends where you're eating out vs. what you would cook at home. Obviously, if you're going out for a steak dinner every night, that's going to add up quick. And if you only use fresh, organic, fancy produce and meats in your home cooking, that's going to get expensive, too.

Are you familiar with the concept of meal planning? It's popular in the weight loss and weightlifting communities. You decide on two or three meals, buy groceries to make multiple servings of each meal (enough to last a week), then cook it all in one day and store it in the fridge or freezer until you're ready to eat it. That way, you have fresh, healthy meals at home, only have to cook once, and it's often cheaper because you can buy certain items in bulk.

This is the subreddit that's most popular for meal planning. It has tips and recipes:

Maybe this could help alleviate some of your trouble, and make sure your mom is getting healthy food.

I am learning to cook. I love mostly japanese food. So when I am not working and at home. I wish to learn japanese cooking and consume that.

I wouldn't eat Olive Garden - unless with a partner. Eating alone is too goofy. You know all the romance music going on etc..

I always get it to go. 😛

I feel uncomfortable eating out alone. People try to talk to me and I'm not up for that LOL

This thread has me hungry.

I eat out more often than I should, but really you'd spend a fraction of the cost by heading to the grocery store regularly and staying stocked on the food you enjoy. It's all about effective cooking and cleaning. 😛
