eBook On Admin Forums

I've read a couple of hard copy books and I've glanced through a couple of free ebooks on the subject - but they didn't appear to include very much useful info.

So do you think there is a need to produce more quality books on how to administer a web based forum?

I think enough information can be found online.

Besides, it'd be better to read a bunch of tips/articles/guides spread out over the net written by a multitude of administrators, rather than one entire book from a single person's point of view.

Self learning by experimenting, is what i prefer. So i never read any.

Same here. I too tend to learn best by trial and error, as I'm sure most of us do. No book ever written by mankind can show everyone how to run a forum properly. I feel that those kinds of tactics are what you need to find out for yourself.

I was actually thinking of writing one, I've been on forums since 1998 and have quite a bit of experience with them. But no matter how good I manage to make it, it will only be from my view and experiences. And my experiences have taught me that though taking tips from others does help if you have the skill and judgement to put them to good use, most of what you learn will be through your own experience.

That's true. You're forum owning experiences could be highly different from someone else's It would probably be hard to come out with a solid book about forum owning, as everyone has their own unique styles and ways of running their forum. You can't exactly write a book and say, "this is how so and so does it so this is how you should do it too". Some people like certain methods, while others have different techniques.

I'd be happy to pay for an ebook on forums if I believed the content would give me some good ideas. Especially if the book was written by someone who runs a successful forum.

Acorn let me know if you decide to write the book, I'd be more than happy to purchase a copy.

Thanks Fergal! If I sell it, it'll probably be pretty cheap, lol. Because one, it'd be my first ebook so probably not stellar, second, I'm poor myself so hate charging a lot for anything cause I feel guilty pulling hunks of cash out of people XD

Thanks Acorn I look forward and would be happy to give you some help to promote it.

Maybe that should be "I'm poor myself because I hate charging a lot" 🙂

Truthly I have read one but it didn't at all relate to administration more about what can you get out of being an administrator, thus being a Marketing Book. I have started reading many eBook's on my iPhone 4, mostly Marketing and Making Money Online, and not to say Mark Apoloson's book.

No, I'm coming into it already poor XD

Anyway, when I start out it won't have fancy formatting, its probably just going to be a set of text files since I don't really know how to set it up format wise and don't have Office. So, I'll start by charging really cheap then see how it goes from there.

i want to make sure it has one good article on how to manage your board once it actually DOES get big. I notice that the stuff I've read doesn't really cover this at all and it's probably the most important thing.

Not a single ebook. But I'll be reading a few. Can you guys PM me some good ebooks?
