How many days do you give for edit capabilities on your forum?
On Christianity Haven, we had a default for the longest time and then changed it to 2 weeks. Now we're changing it to a lesser amount because someone went through and completely altered a thread containing his posts.
I can imagine that would be a nightmare if a member kept going back and editing his thread over and over again. I usually don't have limits on when my members can edit their posts, but my forums aren't active enough for this to be a problem IMO.
I always used to be quite strict with mine and only allow it for up to 24 hours - if you haven’t spotted a mistake by then it’s unlikely you’re going to spot it so there isn’t a need for a longer time period and unless there is an error you shouldn’t really need to edit your post?
I think I have mine for just 24 hours. If something needs to be changed, they could request to change it.
Giving too much time, malicious users could change it and alter the original context of the conversation.
This is something I never really thought about until we started having so many spammers log back in and edit their old posts with backlinks. I believe we've still got it set so that users can edit their posts forever, but XenForo saves the revision history, so we could easily revert it if an issue comes up over it.
I like to keep edit time to 15-20 minutes. I don't see why some one needs longer edit time. If his opinion changes, you can always create another post.
