A lot of philosophies which demand conformity ironically claim people who oppose them are slaves, and even some admit they keep people locked up, but so what? For instance, Cuba is not a free nation, but its propaganda claims American elections are not free - because the rich simply buy the candidates (via advertising and other means).

If this is a political statement, I'd say that it's easy to allege like the elections which is not free. It's like looking at a prism. You see the facet depending on the angle of your view. There's always 2 sides in an issue and everyone has a right to their opinion. And that does not necessarily mean your opinion is correct.

I'd be careful not confusing being free with having a longer chain then the other guy. The guy shackled to the wall by the longest chain in the room is no more free then the guy with the short one though I am sure the guy with the longer chain would argue otherwise in his ignorance.

Even if it's an illusion, some places seem more free than other places, and that's enough for most people. I mean, as long as it doesn't seem like cops, secret police are breathing down my neck, that's good enough.
