A friend of mine from church is a 90 year old male and he fell down a flight of stairs yesterday, breaking 8 ribs. The hospital gave him Tylenol and sent him home!! A few friends and I went over to clean up his house so he could get his walker through without tripping.

What sorts of tips would you give for elderly care?

Did he not even leave him overnight or two in the hospital? at that age, they need more looking after. That isn't nice sending him home right away.

At that age it takes longer to heal and get better,

They kept him one night and I guess he talked his way into being sent home instead of a rehab facility. They said he was coherent. They didn't ask if anyone would be staying with him, or if he had stairs...which is how he fell and broke his ribs!

Oh my, that's awful! I'm so sorry to hear about this, but I'm glad he's on the mend. It's pretty terrible they let him go home, even on his own insistence, the elderly do need considerable care! I'm glad he has good friends to help him in these days.

I will say don't treat him like a frail old man, give him as much independence as you can, within reason, so that he can keep pushing himself. He's strong to make it to 90, show trust in him to carry on. Keep an eye, but give him trust 🙂
