No topic on this already?

It has been announced. Its called skyrim

Yeah, Bethesda's gamebryo just couldn't handle more than a few characters on the screen and actually having good animations. The only plus side for it was it's modability. Hopefully the new one will be as modable

New engine is only one of the problems that Oblivion suffered from, though. It's gonna take some work for me to gain confidence in Skyrim, but I'll reserve my judgement until I know more about the game.

"I'm looking for a dragon, middle aged lizard. Have you seen him?"

umm??

"Im looking for my father, middle aged guy. Have you seen him"
-Fallout 3's great writing 😉

Hmm, can someone link me to some previews? I would love to see them.

Feb issue of GI will have more info, so that means the internet will be flooded with them early January.

@death180

This is BIG news! My favorite all time game second only to sc2..maybe. I go from having too much time to not having enough

I love The Elder Scrolls games, I also have two of my guys covering news and speculation for this game at our site.

So I heard! I'm so excited for this, I've enjoyed all of the installments, so this should be grand! n___n

TES V is the cover story of the upcoming Game Informer, which will feature 14 pages in info. Should be released mid/late January, I believe.

I'm really looking forward to it. Not only is it the first real information we'll get on the game, but it's going to be a lot of it. I'm mainly interested in seeing pictures of the new engine in motion, as well as hopefully hearing about how leveling/level scaling (or lack thereof) will work. Also, I'm hoping they give us some idea of how many armors/weapons/items in general will be in the game.

They've been working on this game since Oblivion was released, and with a full team since Fallout 3 was released, so they better have a massive amout content in this game.

GI issue comes out today, supposed to come in the mail by the 14th... can't wait 😀.

I'll be looking for the online scans...should be up in a matter of days. 😀

Scans are out!

Engine just looks like a modified Gamebryo, but I'm not going to judge until I see some high-res pictures and gameplay videos.

List of features the GI issue confirms:

-Plot involves the return of dragons the massive dragon-god Alduin (as predetermined by the Elder Scrolls), as well as a civil war in Skyrim. 200 years after events of Oblivion.
-Dovahkiin (aka Dragonborn) are "dragon hunters," of which your character might be the last.
-You can now dual wield with any combination of weapons and spells. That is, you can hold an axe in one hand and have a spell assigned to the other, a different spell in -either hand, a dagger and a mace, or just the classic sword and shield, etc.
-18 skills, as opposed to Oblivion's 21 and Morrowind's 27.
-Enchanting (as a skill) is back.
-Smithing as a skill (?)
-Leveling is now determined by all skills (no more major/minor skills). The higher level a skill is, the more it affects your overall level. You can reach level 50 and so on, but past level 50 it takes a dramatically long time to level up.
-When you level up your health increases, then you get to choose an additional increase in health, endurance, or magicka.
-Backward running speed is reduced for increased realism.
-Only 5 schools of magic now (no more Mysticism, whose spells have been spread around the other schools).
-Perks ala Fallout
-Children
-Actual radiant AI (or so they claim - examples given in scans).
-Sprinting with a cost to stamina.
-EDIT: Nope, confirmed by dev not to be a werewolf, but a troll.
-Faces look more unique.
-Everything has its own shadow.
-Lots of menu improvements. Hopefully no more clunky ("consoley") Oblivion menu!
-"...six or seven really different environment looks."
-Five cities
-HUD-less first person view/"improved third-person perspective"
-Your mentor is voiced by Max von Sydow.
-More cinematic conversations. Rather than just having the PC stare at you blankly while they talk they will perform other actions (like walk around) and act more lifelike.
-Shield bashing
-Roleplaying elements like farming, mining, woodcutting, etc.
-Beards
-"Dragon Shouts," which are special abilities acquired throughout the game that allow you to do things such as slow time and call a dragon to your aid. There are about 20 total. Not sure how you get them and how they work exactly.
-Dynamic snow
-Unique "finishing moves" for each weapon and enemy.
-10 races
-Open Cities (?)
