Have you ever emailed a blogger to request a post exchange deal? If so, how did it work out for you to just email randomly like that? Did you receive a response, did the transaction take place, were you blasted for advertising your site through email?

I have had my blog for a little while now and I must admit, I have never tried this idea. I am somewhat intreguied by it though and to hear if anyone here has had any success with it.

It must be a good way of getting members to return and comment though surely, as not everyone subscribes or replies on their willing, for whatever reason.

I started my new craft forum and went looking for craft bloggers who might be interested in doing an exchange with my forum. I have sent out 1 test email to see how it goes. I don't want to spam anyone but I am seriously looking to get craft bloggers involved.

I think it is great that you have tried that. I guess that a craft forum is quite unique and niche specific, so it can be difficult to find on-topic posters. Maybe you are more likely to find these 'creative types' on blogs and I would assume its healthier to get members that way than to 'pinch' them from rival forums? 😛

You must let us know how this test email works out for you. I hope that it brings success.

If they have a contact button and don’t explicitly state no soliciting, I think it’s fair game as long as you are prepared to be turned away. Definitely doesn’t hurt to try.

Yeah, I'm taking the time to go through their sites to see if they have a listed email and some are really friendly about it and encourage people to write them and ask them questions.

The whole system of guest posts and post exchange is already been mistreated by spammers. They would already be getting 5 such emails per day. It would be lucky if they notice a genuine one, let alone respond to it. 🙂

I wanted to give a quick update on this. The initial 2 bloggers I posted did not reply. I stopped adding the link to my site in the email to them in case it was going to spam and I emailed 3 more people and someone replied! He even signed up and posted so now I owe him a few comments. Not sure if he'll return but it's worth it to get myself out there and have a few quick posts to help the site out. I'll be working on slowly emailing more bloggers this week to see how it goes.
