This was the conversation the other day in our office. An embedded video file in the webpage eats space and therefore slows down the display of the particular webpage. The usual style is to upload the video to another site like Youtube and just indicate the link on your webpage. But clicking a link is different from clicking a video file. Am I right on this? Some people I know do not click links on Facebook because that is one way of avoiding viruses and malwares. But an embedded video file on Facebook automatically plays by itself which gives users the confidence to click on it.

Back to the webpage, is a designer correct in embedding one, just one video file, on the homepage instead of placing just the link?

My personal opinion is that I would still click a link to third party website if I'm really interested to see the content. It's harder to do it in mobile platform, but in computer it shouldn't be a problem. Sometimes I see that embedded video automatically plays when it's within our viewing field, which is the more annoying part, because sometimes we are not interested to see the video or are low in data to load videos. But I do like the fact that we don't have to go to another website to load the video. The less click, the better.
