First Impressions
[note]========== BEGIN - First Impressions ==========[/note]
I must say, when I first loaded Encounter Culture I was interested to see what it would bring. However, I was not happy with how it looked. The theme wasn't the nicest and the logo was rather plain and boring, I also hated the sidebar being at the side although it does follow the scrolling rather nicely. If this were my forum, I'd definitely look for a much nicer theme and maybe one that relates to the forum a bit more, the same goes with the logo.

Staff Professionalism
[note]========== BEGIN - Staff Professionalism ==========[/note]
The size of your staff team is very reasonable, you as the administrator and one moderator. You have not hired a ton of administrators and moderators because your forum is new and that is a very wise move. As for the professionalism, I cannot praise it enough. The announcements, whilst not being very big are very well written and have minor, if not no grammatical or spelling errors at all. That is the same with the staff team posting all throughout the board.

Site Structure
[note]========== BEGIN - Site Structure ==========[/note]
Honestly, when I read the name "Encounter Culture", I thought that the forum was going to be based on the discussion of the many cultures of the world. Instead, it seemed to be more of a General Discussion forum. Even so, everything seemed to be in logical order. The Community category coming first and then because it's an all-rounder kind of forum anything may follow. The only thing I can knock about the structure really is that the name of the forum doesn't really relate to the kind of categories and forums you find and also, you should think of some more unique names rather than the generic ones.

Final Remarks
I am not sure about what your site genre has to do with the name of your forum. Normally, forum names relate to what their genre is. The name "Encounter Culture" isn't really the best name for an all around/general discussion forum and the forum's name could be attracting the wrong visitors. Maybe you should fix this while you're still in the early stages. I wish you all the best and I hope your forum does well!

When I first looked at the forum, I wasn't very impressed. The theme looks dull and grey, invoking a sad type atmosphere. I really do not like the sidebar to the left it slows down the loading time in my Android significantly.

I think you can significantly improve your forum by removing the sidebar and getting a better theme... I wish you and Encounter Culture the best of luck in the future.

Thank you, Atrox, for your review. John123, thank you for your suggestions. I am working on making another "theme" or "skin" for my forum. Hopefully, that will improve it.

Minor issue, your affiliates box has broken images:

Okay, I have a question.

Which do you think would look better? A dark theme or a light theme? I know that sometimes it depends on the niche' of the forum. For example, you probably don't want to create a light theme for a forum that has a niche' that is horror related. Outside of that, I think it is a matter of personal preferences. What do you guys think?

Maybe a darker theme. Your theme reminds me of a Victorian era London and if was a dark and smoky gray with some yellow lighting that could be cool

I don't really have a problem with the colours of your theme but the font is extremely small and difficult to read.

The logo needs some work as well.

I like the lamp on the side though.

Also I'd always choose a light theme over a dark one though that's my bias.

I'd look for a light one. I think light looks better than dark on a general chat board.

I really like this theme! Actually, I don't think I've ever seen anything remotely like it. Very good, and very unique. It also looks very good, in my opinion. You need to work on the statistics, though, and maybe add a logo to the top. Something simple and not distracting, because of the lamp on the left.

Good luck! 🙂

The dark theme looks better than the other, it seems like a cool place. I like the logo and it ain't much bad. You need to start posting more content though, you only have 150 posts and that isn't much encouraging. Good luck 😉

Design Quality

You have two themes on your forum right now, Timbertina and Ye Olde Pub. Timbertina being the default theme, I'll base most of my comments off of it. Honestly, I don't really care for it. It's too dark and the dark brown links on the dark brown background don't really work. If the creator allows edits, definitely make those links (i.e. in the submenu and forum titles) a lighter color so they can be seen and read more easily. Your Encounter Culture banner on Timbertina also could use some work. Add something there that is more than just text and really brands your forum. Finally, I think of the two themes you have, Ye Olde Pub is the better option and would be better suited as your default theme. I'd definitely switch those out. But I don't think either are that great and I know from personal knowledge that you can find many, many better themes on ZetaBoards to use on your forum. Custom themes also aren't that expensive, so maybe look into getting one soon to further brand your forum.

Site Statistics

You have 205 posts and 10 members at the time of posting this. Given that this is a re-review, and your forum has been around for a few weeks at the very least, that isn't so great. You alone as the admin should have made more posts than that in the amount of time you've been working on the forum and I would also expect to see more members join your forum as well. Of the many forums on your index, 2 forums have been posted in today and 2 posted in yesterday - the rest date back as far as early January and even December. Definitely work on posting more often in general and also in the forums that haven't had recent posts. It will certainly make your forum more active.

Very Poor

Originality

The name "Encounter Culture" doesn't really tell me about your forum or what your focus is. Looking at your layout, I get an idea that your forum is just a general discussion forum. It looks like you're trying to cover a lot of bases and lots of different niches. This isn't a bad thing necessarily, but it only works if you have the stats, member base, etc. to support it. As mentioned above, you don't have that yet. I suggest cutting down on your forum sections and narrowing in on your focus. I'd say you'll recruit more members (since that seems to be an issue) if you show a clear focus/niche for your forum rather than a handful of various niches. That said, there isn't much originality here and the board is just a bunch of random forums pulled together to make a general discussion board. I don't see anything that you offer that I can't get somewhere that is more active or just more established.

Poor

Final Remarks
Your forum needs a lot of work and it honestly seems like you may have given up on it a bit, which I hope isn't the case. Give it up some TLC and put some more time into it and you can build up a nice community here while following the suggestions above. Good luck!

I've added a new "theme" and changed the forum layout just a little bit. Tell me if that helps or not.
